National Review's crazy Steven Tyler abortion take

In a story headlined "Post-Abortion Trauma" for the National Review, writer Kevin Burke weaves a tale gleaned from Aerosmith's collaborative 2003 group "autobiography," "Walk This Way," which describes the singer and "Idol" judge's doomed, '70s-era relationship and the abortion that triggered its end. Burke, cofounder of a ministry dedicated to "healing the pain of abortion," sets up the story: "In 1975, when he was in his late 20s and the lead singer for the band Aerosmith, Tyler persuaded the parents of his 14-year-old girlfriend, Julia Holcomb, to make him her legal guardian so that they could live together in Boston."
Listeria evolved to live in your fridge

Cold cuts are pretty much delicious little hostels for listeria—a bacteria that can cause serious food poisoning, and even kill vulnerable populations like babies, the elderly, and the sick. That's why doctors advise pregnant women to not eat them, and why the CDC suggests that older people reheat their "cold" cuts to 165 degrees before eating them.
But I've long wondered: Why are listeria able to get such a foothold on a food product that's already been cooked, and that is generally stored in refrigerators? Shouldn't those two factors impede bacterial growth?

He caused controversy by killing turkeys and pigs on camera - now Gordon Ramsay is set to ruffle a few more feathers when he's seen eating a raw duck foetus on his latest cookery show.
The Michelin-starred chef travels to Cambodia where the dish - essentially an over-developed fertilised egg - is a delicacy.
Despite looking incredibly unsure, the potty-mouthed celebrity cook showed his stomach was as strong as he language when he took the plunge - and actually said it tasted nice.
Hog wild: Florida man goes on pork-rind rampage

FORT PIERCE — An apparent pork rind rampage at a food market landed an “irate and cursing” man in jail this week, according to a police report.
The manager/owner of the market told Fort Pierce police that Anthony Wilson, 39, entered the establishment and “began ripping open six bags of Pork Skins.”
In general, pork rinds are deep-fried, cured pork skin pieces. The irregular, Styrofoam-like puffed curls typically are sold in plastic bags with barbecue and/or other flavorings. Fried pork skins are not to be confused with pickled pork rinds, a rich and buttery — much like foie gras — treat often enjoyed refrigerated.
In addition to attacking the pork rinds, Wilson stands accused of destroying lottery tickets.
Employment in U.S. Probably Slowed as Companies Curbed Spending
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7417-Employment-in-U.S.-Probably-Slowed-as-Companies-Curbed-Spending
The pace of hiring in the U.S. probably cooled in April as companies curbed spending in the face of rising raw-material costs, economists said ahead of a government report today.
Payrolls rose by 185,000 workers last month compared with a 216,000 advance in March, according to the median forecast of 86 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. The jobless rate may have held at 8.8 percent.
The economic recovery that began in June 2009 may need to generate more jobs to ensure that consumers, whose spending accounts for 70 percent of the economy, will be able to weather rising fuel and food prices. An employment slowdown underscores why Federal Reserve policy makers last week decided to forge ahead with record monetary stimulus to bolster the expansion.
The current, “moderate” rate of job growth “is a pace that really wouldn’t do much for the unemployment rate,” said Scott Brown, chief economist at Raymond James & Associates Inc. in St. Petersburg, Florida. “There’s a lot of slack in the economy, especially in the labor market. Higher gasoline prices have been a restraint in the near-term.”
The Labor Department’s jobs numbers are due at 8:30 a.m. in Washington. Bloomberg survey estimates range from payroll increases of 118,000 to 325,000.
Private payrolls, which exclude government positions, are forecast to rise by 200,000 following a 230,000 gain the previous month, according to the survey median. The projected April increase would be the smallest in three months.
Where did all the Gak go?

If you were alive in the USA during the 90′s, and not living in a hole in the ground, you probably loved or hated Gak. It depended on if you were a parent or not. Parent’s hated it because it smelled like toxic waste and got stuck in all the fabrics of the house. The kids loved it for the fart noises they could make by squeezing it just right and the weird solid yet liquid feel. It was like a liquid that was soft and moved in slow motion. God I miss its cold clammy embrace.
