A Persian mob breaches British Embassy in Tehran
Iranian protesters break the windows of a British Embassy building, in Tehran, Iran, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011.
The semiofficial Mehr news agency said embassy staff had left the compound before the mobs entered, but it also briefly reported that those who occupied the area had taken six staff as hostages. It did not give their nationalities and the report could not immediately be confirmed.

Joe Lieberman wants Blogger to use a terrorist flag module
“Pimentel’s Internet activity — both his spreading of bomb-making instructions links and his hate-filled writings — were hosted by Google,” Lieberman wrote.
“On his site www.trueislam1.com, Pimentel stated, “People have to understand that America and its allies are legitimate targets in warfare. This includes facilities such as army bases, police stations, political facilities, embassies, CIA and FBI buildings, private and public airports, and all kinds of buildings where money is being made to help fund the war.’ As demonstrated by this recent case, Google’s webhosting site, Blogger is being used by violent Islamist extremists to broadcast terrorist content,” Lieberman continued.
Unlike YouTube’s Community Standards, Lieberman writes, “Blogger’s Content Policy does not expressly ban terrorist content nor does it provide a ‘flag’ feature for such content.”
He continues: “Through your updated YouTube standards, Google has affirmatively stated that terrorist content will not be permitted on some of your sites. I strongly believe that Google should expand that standard to include your other platforms.”

The fed wants a new currency
Beginning with the pros at the SilverDoctors, a question was posed that if the new dollar is true, then Bix Weir’s Road to Roota story of a Gold standard is dead wrong…that the Fed has put out the info Bix used as a decoy.
The Doc (Ted Butler?) answered: “It depends on whether the new dollar is a devalued fiat dollar or is backed by gold. The Fed would not divulge this beforehand because the sheeple would dump their dollars for hard assets like gold and silver to avoid the devaluation–which is the entire purpose of the new dollar.”

Tradition of father's surname in demise
Hyphenation has other pluses. The invented names are distinctive; I’ve never come across a Tuhus-Dubrow outside my immediate family. The inconveniences — blank stares, egregious misspellings — are outweighed by the blessing of never having to worry about a Google doppelgänger. The problem, of course, is that this naming practice is unsustainable. (Growing up, I constantly fielded the question, “What will you do if you marry someone else with two last names? Will your kids have four names?”) Like many of the baby boomers’ utopian impulses, it eventually had to run up against practical constraints. I don’t have children yet, but plenty of others in my cohort — the first in which nontrivial numbers were born hyphenated — do. And reproducing while hyphenated brings inevitable quandaries. I was curious to see how my peers have handled them. So I asked around. What I found was a whole gamut of solutions. The name-blending pioneers now have grandchildren whose names embody an intriguing mix of the traditional and the maverick.

Family fun: A gun-toting youngster poses alongside Santa at a Christmas photo shoot in Scottsdale, Arizona
Toting the gun, and perhaps belts of ammunition around their necks, they smile alongside a rather bewildered-looking Santa.
Children and babies can also get their hands on a firearm of their choice, including grenade launchers, assault rifles and AK-47s.
The picture, taken against a festive backdrop, will then feature on a holiday card.
Afterwards, the families get a chance to test out the machine guns.

The idea of stay-at-home mums is wonderful but not practical any longer, imo
http://beer.weremight.com/forums/showthread.php?10269-Women-married-with-children-and-working
I know of two families where the wife was/is a stay at home mum. The first refused to work for 20 years. The husband worked 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for years. Eventually, his body couldn't carry on at that pace, so he had to slow down. They had their house repo'd because he couldn't manage the repayments on their 4 bed, 3 bath house SHE insisted on having.
The house was rarely clean, and to add insult to injury, she never cooked meals.
Wife #2 has not worked for 12 years. The husband works all hours. She never helps the children with homework, and their flat is a tip! He can't afford his own home and rents, and battles to pay the rent and utilities.
These two scenarios anger me. Wife #1 got a well-paying job AFTER they lost their home and can never buy another home again because of a bad credit rating.
Wife #2 says her husband is there to provide, even though they eat spaghetti out of a can, on toast, 3/4 times a week for dinner.

People want to enfroce polygamy laws in British Columbia
Indeed, Bauman spent a great deal of time reviewing the testimony of expert witnesses who have studied polygamy in both fundamentalist Mormon and Muslim communities around the world. In every case, they found that polygamy harms women, men and children. Women in plural marriages tend to suffer from higher rates of depression and other mental health problems, and are also at greater risk of physical abuse than women in monogamous relationships. Polygamous women also enjoy little economic freedom or security, particularly if and when they end the relationship.

Looking At Page 3 Makes You Brainy, the headline proclaims. “Scientists (have) discovered that looking at pics of the likes of Lacey, Keeley and Rhian makes the brain react quicker,” the paper says. This raises several questions. Such as: “Don’t people name their girls Martha, Dinah or Lois anymore?” Sorry, no. Only in the Bible.
And: How can gazing upon underclad women possibly boost your brainpower? Doesn’t that usually make men stupid? Leave it to the fun-loving Finns to figure it out.

The boy swung a board at the attacker, who chased the 10-year old through the house. In the commotion the attacker, identified by police as Paul R. Newman ended up locked out of the house and trying to climb in through a window. When the mother tried to close the window he grabbed her and threatened to kill both of them.
That's when the boy ran and got his pump action BB gun. "He shot him." said Officer Young, "at least four times we believe." It was enough to end the attack. The boy and his mom were able to run from the house and dial 911.

Carl said: "My feet have always been huge — ever since I can remember. "They grew so fast when I was at school my mum kept having to buy me new shoes every few months. "Each year I would go through two or three pairs. I just wore them out really quickly. "At primary school my feet were always two sizes bigger than anyone else's. "By the time I was 12 years old they were size 14. Then in the space of two years they had gone up to size 17. I play rugby and had a huge struggle finding rugby boots — I had to get them special ordered from America." Now the unemployed welder has all his shoes specially made in the US and shipped to the UK at a cost of around £100. He said: "They don't make size 21 shoes anywhere in the UK. "They cost about £50 to have made but because the boxes they come in are quite big it costs another £50 to have them mailed back here. "I've got one pair of Nike trainers and a pair of steel-toe cap boots for work. I had some rugby boots made as well but they are already too small. "I have to wear my trainers for everything so they end up looking grubby really quickly — I wish I could have a tidy pair." Because he can only wear his trainers for nights out, Carl, a second row for the Trimsaram RFC rugby squad, is often turned away from clubs because his footwear doesn't meet the dress code.

White preservationism: the new brand for WN that is in development
http://beer.weremight.com/forums/showthread.php?10141-White-preservationism-the-new-brand-for-WN-that-is-in-development.
We just need to become united around a central idea, and that idea has yet to be provided. White nationalism as a whole will not work and, FWIW, I think Hunter W.'s polemics against the movement as of late, in terms of accomplishments and leadership, are largely accurate; WN groups have largely done more damage to the credibility of the movement as a whole by their own actions. Criminal-prone skinhead-ism will certainly not work. Southern resurgence isn't happening. National socialism is foreign to America and those who pretend to subscribe to it are jesters. Moreover, Hitler was first and foremost a pan-German empire builder/nationalist, and not a racialist.

Syria: Lybia 2.0?
Part of this moral code to which I subscribe includes not lying, especially when such lies will endanger the lives of other people. The possible lies surrounding Syria will undoubtedly put thousands of Syrian lives in danger; as if these reports are indeed falsified or at all exaggerated they can and will be used to justify foreign intervention.
As I have covered in my previous articles, the immense NATO bombing campaign, which has already resulted in the deaths of innocent Libyan civilians, was also based on several falsified or exaggerated incidents. We are also being fed a misrepresentation of how the Libyan people feel about Gaddafi.
This was revealed before the full-scale attacks began by Russian officials, yet the United States, France, and Britain seem to either not care or disregard the veracity of the statements. I struggle to find a logical and probable reason why Russian personnel would lie about their findings, if someone can, I would appreciate you leaving your thoughts below.
However, these are not the only reports which conflict with the picture (and the only picture) that is presented by the Western corporate media. In fact eyewitness reports revealed by RT directly conflict with this picture.
A video that was used by the mainstream Western media as evidence of the alleged injustices occurring there was apparently actually a video filmed in Iraq in the 1990s. The man who witnessed this in front of his own shop can be heard testifying to this fact below:
So, what are we to believe, unverified reports? I wish I could bring myself to believe these reports but unfortunately I am part of the reality-based community that does not believe anything unless it is independently verifiable.

EMU faculty promises to respect public school teacher contracts
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?8333-Eastern-Michigan-faculty-side-with-teachers-unions
Eastern Michigan University faculty members are promising not to do any work that might help bust existing public school teacher contracts, possibly crimping plans to use the faculty in a new statewide school district run by the university and the Detroit Public Schools.
"We won't have our membership involved in breaking union contracts," said Howard Bunsis, the treasurer of the EMU faculty union.
Gov. Rick Snyder announced a plan to create an Educational Achievement System, which would take in Michigan's failing public schools, possibly starting with 34 DPS schools in about a year.
At issue is the power of DPS emergency manager Roy Roberts, who would also be chairman of the new district's governing authority. As a governor-appointed emergency manager, Roberts has the legal power to end or modify DPS union contracts and to negotiate contracts for the new district.
A key ingredient of Snyder's plan would be EMU's willingness to move faculty from its college of education into struggling public schools to help train teachers and to work in other ways. Roberts said he was particularly interested in using faculty and their expertise to help students with special needs.
EMU's union leadership balked at the Board of Regents meeting Tuesday. Despite the protests, the regents approved the agreement to take part in the new district.
The role of outside union members in a district run by a leader with legal powers to cancel contracts is but one gray detail that needs to be worked out. Some parts of the plan might need legislative approval and others are still in the planning phase.

14 Reasons Why Rick Perry Would Be A Really, Really Bad President
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?8298-Rick-Perry-just-another-fair-haired-candidate-fm-Bilderberg
The following are 14 reasons why Rick Perry would be a really, really bad president….
#1 Rick Perry is a “big government” politician. When Rick Perry became the governor of Texas in 2000, the total spending by the Texas state government was approximately $49 billion. Ten years later it was approximately $90 billion. That is not exactly reducing the size of government.
#2 The debt of the state of Texas is out of control. According to usdebtclock.org, the debt to GDP ratio in Texas is 22.9% and the debt per citizen is $10,645. In California (a total financial basket case), the debt to GDP ratio is just 18.7% and the debt per citizen is only $9932. If Rick Perry runs for president these are numbers he will want to keep well hidden.
#3 The total debt of the Texas government has more than doubled since Rick Perry became governor. So what would the U.S. national debt look like after four (or eight) years of Rick Perry?
#4 Rick Perry has spearheaded the effort to lease roads in Texas to foreign companies, to turn roads that are already free to drive on into toll roads, and to develop the Trans-Texas Corridor which would be part of the planned NAFTA superhighway system. If you really do deep research on this whole Trans-Texas Corridor nonsense you will see why no American should ever cast a single vote for Rick Perry.
#5 Rick Perry claims that he has a “track record” of not raising taxes. That is a false claim. Rick Perry has repeatedly raised taxes and fees while he has been governor. Today, Texans are faced with significantly higher taxes and fees than they were before Rick Perry was elected.

Ask any Southern born gentlemen, and he will be sure to elaborate on this theme.

A QUESTION OF ELIGIBILITY
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?8236-Corsi-s-Book-on-Obama-B.-cert.-is-devastating-opposition-weak-for-rebuttals
The book presents exhaustive research into a list of issues about Obama, including:
•His status as a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and the U.S. at his birth, which is a circumstance the Constitution's framers considered an iron-clad roadblock to the Oval Office.
•The absence of documentation from his birth hospital, the doctor who delivered him or any other witnesses to his birth. The press has widely reported Obama was born at Queen's Medical Center, then suddenly changed its reports to reflect that he was born at Kapiolani.
•The Associated Press has documented that Obama was registered in school as a Muslim and a citizen of Indonesia as a child, another barrier to U.S. natural-born citizenship.
•The Congressional Research Service, a public policy arm of Congress, officially admits no one in government ever vetted Obama's eligibility under the demands of the U.S. Constitution.
•What happened in Obama's family, as evidence indicates his mother left Hawaii with him to go to school in Seattle only weeks after his birth, and his mother and father, Barack Sr., reportedly never shared an address and lived together as a family. Yet Obama claims his father left when he was 2 years old.
•Why is the number for Barack Obama's "Certificate of Live Birth" as reported in Hawaii out of sequence?
•Why does he apparently use a Social Security number reserved for applicants from Connecticut when he and his family never lived there?
Any one of these issues could impact directly his eligibility for the White House under the Constitution's demand that a president be a "natural born citizen."
The book presents exhaustive research into a list of issues about Obama, including:

Hallstatt Mayor Alexander Scheutz describes the plan as "a compliment to our village," while hotel owner Monika Wenger thinks at least some Chinese who have seen the copy cat version of Hallstatt will want to visit the original.
But in a deeply traditional part of Austria shielded for centuries from much of the rest of the world by towering mountains and steep valleys, the apparent secrecy surrounding the project has also revived suspicions of outsiders, even though Hallstatt survives only because of the millionds of tourist dollars spent here every year.

U.S. housing collapse is now worse than during the Great Depression
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?8152-Housing-Collapse-Steeper-Than-During-Great-Depression
Dales said the collapse has eclipsed that of the Great Depression because the boom that preceded it was much bigger. Unlike during the 1920s, access to the housing market was far more open leading up to 2006.
"This boom was characterized by homeownership becoming the norm for pretty much anyone," Dales said, noting that the boom has effectively been thrown in reverse.
While the Stock markets have partially bounced back since the 2008 Wall Street collapse and the economy as a whole has been growing, the employment picture is bleak and housing continues to suffer.
The national jobless rate ticked up to 9.1 percent in May -- that was after the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller index issued a report showing home prices in a dozen metropolitan regions hit their lowest level in March since the collapse began. Nationally, prices hit a new post-collapse low in the first quarter, and have returned to roughly 2002 levels.

He argues that Asian manufacturing has gone through a number of phases, each lasting about 30 years. When China was isolated under Mao Zedong, companies in Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea grew expert at making things. When China reopened in the late 1970s, after Mao’s death, these experienced Asian operators converged on southern China. With almost free access to land and labour, plus an efficient port and logistics hub in nearby Hong Kong, they started to make things ever more cheaply and sell them to the whole world.

Not Just for Big Words
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?8133-Justices-Turning-More-Frequently-to-Dictionary
J. Gordon Christy, a professor at the Mississippi College School of Law, surveyed the scene in 2006, and he did not like what he saw. “We are treated,” Mr. Christy wrote in The Mississippi Law Journal, “to the truly absurd spectacle of august justices and judges arguing over which unreliable dictionary and which unreliable dictionary definition should be deemed authoritative.”
In the last two decades, the use of dictionaries at the Supreme Court has been booming.
A new study in The Marquette Law Review found that the justices had used dictionaries to define 295 words or phrases in 225 opinions in the 10 years starting in October 2000. That is roughly in line with the previous decade but an explosion by historical standards. In the 1960s, for instance, the court relied on dictionaries to define 23 terms in 16 opinions.
Justices Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., Benjamin N. Cardozo and Louis D. Brandeis managed to make it through distinguished careers on the Supreme Court without citing dictionaries.
Learned Hand, widely considered the greatest judge never to have served on the Supreme Court, cautioned against the mechanical examination of words in isolation.

Investigators say Pagoria cut the legs off one end of the desk she used for the spanking. To keep the girls from moving, she handcuffed their arms and tied their ankles to the desk, deputies said.
The girls told investigators that Pagoria beat them with a leather sex paddle. The victims believed they were being punished — one said she was hit 50 times for being "disrespectful"
Detectives say Pagoria recorded the beatings on her cell phone, uploading them to the Internet so her online boyfriend could watch.

Presumably, this refers to Lenin’s stint in Siberia, in the mid-1890s. Exactly why Vladimir Ilyich’s reliance on lactose letters needed to be kept under wraps for 11 decades, the NSA doesn’t say.

The creditors (Chinese elites, international financial elites/organized crime) thus have given themselves all the money -- that was never ours, that was never really American money, but always -- since world war one for which the Fed was designed -- always an international money -- as I was saying the creditors gave themselves all the money and created the deflationary depression inside the USA so that all the choice propereties would be put on sale, so that bankrupt states and cities and counties and the federal government would put all of their land and paying assets (parking meters sold to J B Morgan for example) and the government also sells its deregulations -- allowing generic drugs to become retro-patent violations, giving monopolies on drugs that were competitive -- with fantastic increases in price to the consumer -- as I say - there is not inflation -- only monopoly price increases -- the creditors are killing you with deflation while building up the invading foreign hoards with an inflation of dollars from the "QE" buying of Chinese held US securities for dollar cash.

Gita Saghal, former campaigner for Amnesty International: "Rape is used as a weapon of war"
On Wednesday, Mr Moreno-Ocampo said that if the arrest warrants were issued, he might add the charge of rape to the case.
He told reporters at the UN in New York that he had collected evidence suggesting the Libyan leader had decided to punish women by using rape as a weapon in the hope that it would instil fear and curb dissent.
"It was never the pattern he used to control the population. The rape is a new aspect of the repression. And that's why we had doubts at the beginning but now we are more convinced," he said.
"Apparently, he decided to punish, using rape."
He said it was difficult to know how widespread the use of rape was.
"In some areas we had a number of 100 people raped. The issue for us was, can we attribute these rapes to Gaddafi himself, or is it something that happened in the barracks," he explained.

If you watch the clip, you might come away with the impression that Cox acted like an obnoxious punk. How? He said something that wasn't nice to a policeman, and he said it loudly. And as Kelley testified, "his attitude and the way he went about carrying himself" were on the sassy side—though there's no law requiring citizens to display cringing submission in the presence of a policeman, either.
Now, none of us is a mind reader. But it seems fair to wonder whether Kelley would have written Cox up if Cox had bellowed something more flattering to the ego, such as: "Thanks for keeping our streets safe, Officer!"

The War on Drugs has failed.
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?8005-Declare-Defeat-and-Go-Home
People recovering from drug and alcohol addiction are fond of defining insanity as trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. By that standard, American policy toward mind-altering substances looks awfully familiar. The nation tried Prohibition once, with alcohol. Result: abject failure, rampant organized crime, and little lasting effect on consumption or addiction. In fact, Prohibition actually encouraged the use of harder spirits, since bootleggers could smuggle more alcohol in a car full of liquor than a car full of beer.
Alcohol prohibition lasted only a few years. The war on drugs has lasted for decades, and for the most part has consisted of only one solution, over and over: criminalization and imprisonment. Nearly 2 million people are arrested each year for drug offenses and a half-million are currently serving time on drug charges. Yet when stiffer sentences fail to produce the desired results, drug prohibitionists insist the penalties just aren’t harsh enough. They resemble the carpenter who complained that he had cut a board three times and it was still too short.

Our school children are special targets in a culture war—they are taught that their parents and ancestors have exploited and victimized the other peoples of the earth. Public institutions named for such Founding Fathers as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are being renamed for radicals like Malcolm X and Cesar Chavez—even the holiday that honors America’s discoverer, Christopher Columbus, is now under attack. Young people are trained to be sensitive towards “oppressed minorities,” but are stripped of pride for what their own people have accomplished. This anti-white—anti- American—campaign of an intellectual elite is waged in the most vicious language and it assigns collective guilt to our kinship in a way that would be considered intolerable if directed at other groups.

The high court rejects an appeal to California's policy of giving in-state college tuition
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7958-Supreme-Court-allows-California-to-grant-in-state-tuition-to-illegal-immigrants
But last year, in the first ruling of its kind, the California Supreme Court said the state's policy did not conflict with federal law because the tuition benefit turned on a student's high school graduation, not his or her residency. In the 2001 law, the state said it would give in-state tuition to a qualified student who attended a high school in California for three years and graduated.
Under this interpretation, a student from Oregon who graduates from a high school in California could obtain in-state tuition in the University of California system. In defense of its law, California education officials said that many of those who took advantage of its in-state tuition policy were U.S. citizens who hailed from other states.

Greece to start austerity drive as nation seethes

Greece's international lenders have made clear that the new bailout package, which would replace a 110 billion euro deal agreed only a year ago, depends on Athens keeping to its promises for further austerity and accelerated privatizations. But the government is under huge pressure, not from the hooded radicals who battled police in the early days of the austerity drive, but from ordinary Greeks who are suffering badly under pay and pension cuts and soaring unemployment.
On Sunday night people from Athens and far beyond the capital crammed into the city's Syntagma Square to show they are close to the limit of their endurance.
"Thieves - hustlers - bankers," read one banner raised above a sea of splayed hands waved at the parliament building which overlooks the square, an offensive gesture in Greek culture. Turnout was the biggest so far in a series of 12 nightly rallies inspired originally by Spain's protest movement. Police put the turnout at 80,000, but many were stuck in side streets, unable to squeeze into the square, and protesters accuse authorities of routinely underestimating their numbers.

A "long-term analysis" of each country and language, and in-house research on shortwave's effectiveness in each, would determine which areas retain service.
The report, released following a Freedom of Information Act request by Government Attic, took six months to surface and it isn't clear to what extent its recommendations have been implemented. In February, however, Voice of America ceased shortwave broadcasts in China.

5. Artie Stewart, scout, Royals — He’s over 80 years old, but he doesn’t miss a pitch if he’s scouting a pro or a kid on a high school field. Bo Jackson, Johnny Damon, Carlos Beltran, Mike Sweeney, and Kevin Appier are among his signings.
6. Pat Gillick, special assistant, Phillies — What does a man with Hall of Fame credentials love to do these days? Scout amateur players. He’ll go anywhere, any time to find a player. Remarkable work ethic and love for what he does.
7. Jeff Cox, third base coach, White Sox — The game is his life. Never married and still living at home with his mother, he is one of the more upbeat people you’ll ever see. He walks through the clubhouse saying, “Push, push, gotta push,’’ to the players, meaning that he believes in an aggressive style of play. Considered a baseball savant.
8. Buck Showalter, manager, Orioles — Sees things no one else sees. Studies the game constantly. Goes home from games and will watch college or pro baseball on TV.

Dodgers' and Mets' issues are well-known but others are said to carry debt 10 times more than annual earnings.

Frank McCourt, the Dodgers' owner, has told executives within the industry he does not agree with Selig's decision to appoint a trustee to oversee his team and does not understand why Selig has not acted similarly with any other team.
"I can't say I haven't heard people in baseball talk about that," Chicago-based sports business consultant Marc Ganis said, "but there is a lot of deferral to Bud on this one."
Selig often says baseball is in a "golden age," in large part because revenue has jumped from $3.6 billion in 2002 — the last year seriously threatened by a strike or lockout — to $7 billion in 2010.
The debt service rules emerged from the 2002 labor negotiations, after overall club debt soared from $600 million in 1993 to $2.1 billion in 1999 and $3.1 billion in 2001.
The rules, intended to ensure clubs have the resources to support their financial obligations, generally limit a team's debt to 10 times its annual earnings, although Selig has wide latitude to enforce those rules.

Larissa was spotted during the World Cup with a cell phone lodged in her ample bosom. And we all know how much men like to combine their love of sports with their love of women. Therefore the readers of Askmen.com ranked her at #93 in the world, ahead of people like Camilla Belle. Wow. Sadly for her there isn’t a World Cup, or a shortage of places to store cell phones, every year.

George Guelph
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7915-Thomas-Jefferson-on-George-Guelph-(the-Third)
Thomas Jefferson was of the 'Old Whig' party, as were all the Founding Fathers. That is, they supported the Glorious Revolution of 1688 (the defeat of King James II at the Battle of the Boyne), but opposed the 'New Whig' Oligarchy ruled over by Pitt, whom they claim perverted the aforesaid Revolution. Consequently, they supported the Stuart claims over the House of Hanover, though Adams saw himself as the second coming of Oliver Cromwell [a Republican], and Jefferson supported the anti-Stuart politics of the lawyer Edward Coke.
The Hanoverians were well-known to be part of the Black Guelph dynasty (which included Russian Romanovs and Austrian Hapsburgs, eventually, as well), that ruled Europe at the time. Making political hay of this was a typical American response to this dynasty in Europe, for Jefferson's era.

We wanted a quick resolution and we were able to get to where we wanted to be." A police report obtained by WDRB News in March indicates that LMPD officers apprehended 38-year-old Carrie Shafer at the canoe launch in Miles Park, across the street from the Valhalla Golf Club earlier that month. Police say they found her in a car with "steamed windows." With her in the car was a 17-year-old student, and both Shafer and the minor were "partially nude."

Analysis
M Ilyas Khan BBC News, Islamabad
It is difficult to confirm almost everything in Pakistan's tribal badlands which are a virtual no-go area for the media, but there are indications Ilyas Kashmiri is indeed dead. According to a recent Associated Press report, his name figured among the top five al-Qaeda and Taliban militants US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mentioned during her meetings with the Pakistani leadership a week ago. He was one of the most active al-Qaeda leaders, and was believed to have had a role in some high-profile attacks against Pakistani and US interests in Pakistan. It is believed that the capabilities of his 313 Brigade will suffer a setback now that he is gone. What is more, the Pakistani government has admitted to agreeing to set up joint intelligence teams with the Americans to hunt down wanted militant leaders, and many would be led to believe the Pakistani intelligence operatives had a role in leading the Americans to Kashmiri, unless the Pakistanis or the Americans claim otherwise.

Police say EMS had to be called after two Louisville parents left an infant child in the back seat of a hot car while they visited a local strip club.
It happened at roughly 11:00 Tuesday night in the parking lot of Deja Vu, near the intersection of Taylor Blvd. and Longfield Ave.
Police say they received a phone call about an infant trapped in the back seat of a black Chevy Impala, while the parents had gone inside to the bar. When officers arrived, they found the child in the back seat, soaked in sweat.
At that point, 43-year-old Laura Diprimo -- listed as the child's mother -- allegedly ran out of the strip club and jumped in the car, lowering the windows. 28-year-old Thomas W. Lee -- listed on the arrest

Coca-Cola has hired a security firm to shadow its Invercargill staff as they make deliveries after death threats were made against them.
Coca-Cola Amatil New Zealand managing director George Adams yesterday confirmed an Invercargill man had threatened to kill Coca-Cola staff working in the city.
Since the threat, staff had been asked to wear plain clothes at work, were travelling in un-branded vehicles, and were accompanied by security officers.
The man said his wife died in February last year and his claims she was poisoned by Coca-Cola were "patently untrue" but his threats against staff in Invercargill were being taken serious-ly by the company, Mr Adams said.
The man was "very irate".

Police said a burglar swiped a 12-pack of beer from Red Rooster Deli at 256 Oak St. about 2 a.m. Thursday by carving a hole through an exterior wall and the rear of a walk-in refrigerator pushed up against it.
Without entering the deli, police said the man took the beer and then fled in a Ford Escort on North Avenue toward Park Avenue.
Police later found the man in his vehicle with an open beer bottle, a large chisel and a hand saw.
Rui J. Rua, 45, of Frank Street, Bridgeport, with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, larceny and criminal mischief.

Hoover Tactical Firearms managing partner Peyton Zarzour, inventory manager Amy Zarzour and sales manager John Farmer are preparing to move. The two-year-old gun shop is moving across U.S. 31 and into a former Bruno's where it will have pistol and rifle ranges and a deli. (Hal Yeager, The Birmingham News)
A Hoover gun shop is expanding its business in response to a growing market for firearms used for personal protection and law enforcement.
Hoover Tactical Firearms, which opened nearly two years ago on U.S. 31, plans to relocate across the highway to a former Bruno's Supermarket, where the business will add a new lineup of features. Plans call for indoor pistol and rifle ranges, an expanded showroom, classrooms and a deli. The company paid $2.4 million for the property and plans to invest up to $1.5 million in renovations. A key component of the new site will be education for youth and training for law enforcement, said Peyton Zarzour, managing partner of Hoover Tactical Firearms. There are a limited number of area shooting ranges, particularly those that are indoors, where law enforcement officers can obtain training required by the state, he added.

But the company has decided to revamp their product's look, with a "refinement" that retains the black-on-white aesthetic, while dispensing with many of the quirky stats, boasts and sayings that made it look so cluttered. How many are now missing? And what's there now that wasn't before? Bonus points if you play this drunk.

The Definition of WASPjew
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7884-The-Definition-of-WASPjew
The term "WASPjew" was first coined on the SpeakEasy forum during some of the clashes that took place between British/WASP
wannabes (such as Zed and Masty), good white folk of whole or partial Irish descent, and other good white folk who oppose
British imperialism or England for historical reasons.
The term was coined as a pejorative to counter the assertion that "the Irish are the niggers of the white race" or the
pejorative "Hibernigger" (both of which make no sense -- true men and women of Eire and even shanty American micks have
absolutely nothing in common with niggers on any level). The phrase started with the claim that "if the Irish are the
'niggers' of the white race, than the WASPs are most certainly its Jews."

He also pulled his eyes sideways to impersonate a Chinese early years teacher adding 'I can't stand them'.
His shocking catalogue of abuse included Parker calling a prospective teacher a 'P*ki' and stating 'we don't want any of those' in respect to a black applicant.

Bedtime for Bibi

The only good thing which could result from Bibi Netanyahu’s May 24 speech to a joint session of the US Congress is that it may open people’s eyes after a very long nap. If so, it will have served a useful purpose and could be a turning point. A lot of intelligent Americans and Europeans are in denial. They have generally viewed criticism of Israel from any quarter with suspicion and skepticism. If one brings up the larger topic of Zionism’s shadowy history and adverse consequences, they become even more suspicious.
But the Likud kingpin’s magnificent con job—and the unseemly performance of a servile Congress in embracing it—should give every true-blue American who has not been brainwashed a wake-up call. What exactly is going on here, and why? Has Washington’s leadership abdicated its responsibilities to the American people and humanity? Has it simply offshored American foreign policy to Tel Aviv? Such appears to be the case, and it is downright embarrassing.

911 hoax behind SWAT response A Eugene man falls victim to “swatting"

Eugene police said they had no choice Monday night but to take seriously a 911 caller’s startling claim that he had just shot his father inside a River Road area apartment and was about to kill himself.
“It sounded like a critical call,” police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin said.
Fourteen police officers arrived at the Riviera Village complex on Corliss Lane in response to the 9:23 p.m. emergency call.
They left the scene after determining that the report suggesting a potential murder-suicide had occurred was bogus, McLaughlin said.
Investigators suspect the 911 caller obtained the name, address and telephone number of a man who lived at the apartment, then used that information to retaliate against the tenant after the pair squabbled while playing an online game on their Xbox video systems, McLaughlin said.
The apartment resident — a 26-year-old man who spoke with The Register-Guard on condition of anonymity — said he was targeted because he refused to give another player content that he had created for a game called FortressCraft.
“He tried to twist my arm over something relatively small in the game,” the Eugene man said.
For the past several years, cybercriminals have settled scores with foes by “swatting” — the name given to a telephone scheme that involves calling 911 to fake an emergency that could draw a police SWAT team response.

Yemen's Death Spiral: How the Economy and the Military Will Play
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7526-Yemen-s-Death-Spiral-How-the-Economy-and-the-Military-Will-Play
Yemen's revolution has been a slow-burning one. Three months after an 18-day whirlwind of protests tossed Egypt's Hosni Mubarak from power, Yemen's youthful protesters are still in the thick of their own Arab uprising. However, though hounded and abandoned by senior members of his party army and tribe, President Ali Abdullah Saleh somehow continues to cling to power.
Time and again, Saleh has reneged on apparent agreements to step down. But time may now truly be running out as rival factions of the military begin to turn on each other and the economy heads into a death spiral.
(See scenes from Yemen.)
The events of the week so far are ominous. Yemen's youthful protesters decided to go on the offensive and tighten the screws on their embattled ruler, who was holed up behind the high walls of his presidential palace, still dithering over an initiative brokered by gulf states that would see him exchange power for immunity. The Civic Coalition of Revolutionary Youth, one of the leading protest groups, unveiled a plan to escalate efforts to oust Saleh that includes national hunger strikes, civil disobedience, blockades of roads and ports, as well as a march on the presidential palace.

The Civic Coalition of Revolutionary Youth, one of the leading protest groups, unveiled a plan to escalate efforts to oust Saleh that includes national hunger strikes, civil disobedience, blockades of roads and ports, as well as a march on the presidential palace.

Authorities in South Carolina say they arrested a 50-year-old convenience store clerk who sold cigarettes and smokeless tobacco to boys after they let him spank them.
Lexington County deputies said Tuesday that they started investigating Terrence Bryant (Who seems to suffer a poor quality of mustache) ---> after the father of a 12-year-old boy found him with a pack of Newport cigarettes earlier this month.
Detectives say Bryant sold the boy cigarettes at least five times from his pickup truck, spanking the child in the parking lot over his clothes.
Deputies say Bryant also sold tobacco to two 15-year-old boys after spanking them.
Bryant is charged with three counts of lewd act upon a child under age 16. He is awaiting a bond hearing and deputies say he doesn't have an attorney yet.

Warning: This editorial contains spoilers for Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.
One of the most controversial moments in gaming for 2010 was the announcement of Ninja Theory's new take on the Devil May Cry series, simply titled DmC. Ninja Theory, developers behind the PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavenly Sword and the multiplatform Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, drew heavy scrutiny for their drastically different take on Devil May Cry series protagonist Dante. This new Dante, seemingly designed for the Twilight crowd, was universally hated by fans, and both Ninja Theory and Capcom received heavy backlash. However, I'm here to tell you that we as gamers should have faith in Ninja Theory, and that Devil May Cry is in good hands.

Because the wedding was illegal and a secret, except to the invited guests, and because marriage rites in Rajasthan are often conducted late at night, it was well into the afternoon before the three girl brides in this dry farm settlement in the north of India began to prepare themselves for their sacred vows. They squatted side by side on the dirt, a crowd of village women holding sari cloth around them as a makeshift curtain, and poured soapy water from a metal pan over their heads. Two of the brides, the sisters Radha and Gora, were 15 and 13, old enough to understand what was happening. The third, their niece Rajani, was 5. She wore a pink T-shirt with a butterfly design on the shoulder. A grown-up helped her pull it off to bathe.

"We need to be honest with the president, with the Congress, with the American people" about the consequences of cutting the defense budget, said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in his valedictory policy address to the American Enterprise Institute.
"(A) smaller military, no matter how superb, will be able to go fewer places and do fewer things."
Gates seeks to ignite a debate the country seems reluctant to have. With a federal budget running out of balance by 10 percent of gross domestic product, what are we Americans willing to sacrifice? What are we willing to forego? What are we willing to cut?

(Here are my 2007Frequently Asked Questions lists about IQ and race.)
It’s not hard to understand why most Democrats are so angry and unreasonable about this. It suggests that that America’s post 1965 immigration disaster, which they constantly gloat about because of what they think will be its short-term political effects, will in fact prove profoundly negative for America.

Welfare drug testing signed into law by Fla. Gov. Scott
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7840-Welfare-drug-testing-signed-into-law-by-Fla.-Gov.-Scott
Floridians must submit urine, blood or hair samples for drug testing before receiving cash benefits from the state under a bill Gov. Rick Scott signed into law Tuesday.
“The goal of this is to make sure we don’t waste taxpayers’ money,” Scott said. “And hopefully more people will focus on not using illegal drugs.”
The new law fulfills a campaign pledge from Scott, but has raised legal questions. The ACLU of Florida has signaled it might sue over the law.
“Once again, this governor has demonstrated his dismissal of both the law and the right of Floridians to personal privacy by signing into law a bill that treats those who have lost their jobs like suspected criminals,” said ACLU of Florida director Howard Simon.
The law, which goes into effect on July 1, will mean about 4,400 drug tests per month, according to the Department of Children & Families. Taxpayers will reimburse welfare applicants for negative drug tests, which can cost between $10 and $25.
Positive tests will carry an immediate six-month ban on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. A second positive test will result in a three-year ban on state assistance.

Clause 11 of the bill amends those offences by removing the references to those specific communication technologies and, for some of those offences, substituting a reference to any means of telecommunication. As a result, it will be possible to lay charges in respect of those offences regardless of the transmission method or technology used.

Pill could erase painful memories, study shows

What if you could take a pill and erase painful memories? Most of us would probably choose not to lose parts of our past, but for those with post-traumatic stress disorder, such a pill might bring welcome relief.
In a study that sounds very much like a scene from the movie “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” researchers have shown that the right medication might actually help rub out wrenching remembrances.
For the new study, researchers rounded up 33 university students and asked them to watch a video presentation that told the story of a little girl who has a horrible accident while visiting with her grandparents. While the girl and her grandfather are constructing a birdhouse, one of the little girl’s hands gets caught in a saw. One of the pictures shown to the study volunteers is of her mangled hand.
Though the girl’s hand is eventually saved at the hospital and the story ends fine, the presentation is tough to sit through and tends to cause viewers emotional distress, explains the study’s lead author Marie-France Marin, a doctoral student at The Center for Studies on Human Stress at the University of Montreal. “It’s not fun to watch,” she says. “It induces a lot of emotion.”

A group of six westerners are clearly visible in a report by al-Jazeera from Dafniya, described as the westernmost point of the rebel lines west of the town of Misrata. Five of them were armed and wearing sand-coloured clothes, peaked caps, and cotton Arab scarves.
The sixth, apparently the most senior of the group, was carrying no visible weapon and wore a pink, short-sleeve shirt. He may be an intelligence officer. The group is seen talking to rebels and then quickly leaving on being spotted by the television crew.

Women Fighting and Dying in War, Despite Combat Exclusion Policy

On June 25, 2005, Jimenez was riding in the back of a truck carrying 14 female Marines near the Iraqi hotbed of Fallujah. The all-female unit was tasked with searching and questioning Iraqi women at security checkpoints, ensuring they were not armed with explosives. Since females were not allowed to sleep at the checkpoints as their male counterparts were, every day the women would be driven to and from an American base, making them a visible target each time they hit the road. It was only a matter of time before their luck would run out, and that night, it did.
A car approached their convoy, moments before it ran straight towards the women's truck. Packed with explosives, it detonated on impact, enveloping all 14 women in a deadly fireball. Most of the women were severely burned. Two women died immediately, one later that night, in what would become the deadliest attack on servicewomen since 1991.

Jewish Worshippers, Soldiers Clash In West Bank
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7805-Jewish-Worshippers-Soldiers-Clash-In-West-Bank
The Israeli military says soldiers have forcibly removed dozens of Jewish worshippers who refused to leave a holy site inside a Palestinian city in the West Bank.
An estimated 1,600 worshippers entered the city of Nablus early Monday for nighttime prayers at a site believed to be the tomb of the biblical Joseph. The visit was coordinated with the military and Palestinian security forces.
The military says about an additional 200 Israelis went in without permission, and 50 refused to leave the tomb building early Monday. The military said soldiers removed them, arresting three.
The military criticized the Israelis for endangering themselves and the troops guarding the prayers. A Jewish worshipper at the tomb without permission was killed by a Palestinian policeman on April 24.

Greece said to be readying new cuts

European leaders are trying to negotiate a new bailout deal for Greece that would expand outside intervention in the country’s finances, the Financial Times reported late Sunday.
Citing people involved in the talks, the FT reported the privatization of state assets and international involvement in tax collection to be among the options being considered.
And, a Reuters report had Greece’s finance minister on Saturday denying a report in the German weekly magazine Spiegel that Greece had missed fiscal targets required to obtain its next portion of a 110 billion-euro bailout approved by the IMF and European leaders last year.
The measures are meant to reduce Greece’s budget deficit from 10.5% of gross domestic product last year to under 1% by 2015.
Thousands of demonstrators gathered on the streets in Athens on Monday, continuing a large-scale protest into a sixth day.

Self-Defense or Murder: Oklahoma Case Sparks Debate
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7803-Self-Defense-or-Murder-Oklahoma-Case-Sparks-Debate
Pharmacist Jerome Ersland sits in the courtroom as jury selection gets underway in his trial at the Oklahoma County Courthouse in Oklahoma City on May 16, 2011.
A story of crime and punishment that is dividing an Oklahoma community has now entered the online world, raising questions about what is self-defense and first-degree murder.
The debate stems from the life sentence an Oklahoma City, Okla., jury handed down to pharmacist Jerome Ersland on May 26 for a first-degree murder conviction in the killing of 16 year-old Antwun Parker.
Ersland's attorneys told jurors throughout the murder trial that their client had acted in self-defense when he shot Parker six times during an attempted robbery at his Oklahoma City pharmacy. Prosecutors, meanwhile, argued Ersland went too far.

History Salutes Civil War Sesquicentennial Anniversary With 'Gettysburg' Doc

This Memorial Day, History launches a four-year initiative to both honor and commemorate the Civil War, which marks its sesquicentennial anniversary in 2011, with the two-hour documentary Gettysburg.
Executive-produced by Tony (Unstoppable; Man on Fire; Top Gun) and Ridley (Gladiator; Black Hawk Down; American Gangster), the feature documentary is narrated by Sam Rockwell (Conviction, Iron Man 2, The Green Mile).
Gettysburg strips away any romanticized veneer of the Civil War and presents the engagement in a new light: a visceral, terrifying experience with everything on the line. At its core, this is the story of the soldiers on the ground, not the generals who commanded from behind the frontlines. CGI and action footage place viewers in the midst of the fighting, delivering an emotional cinematic and information-packed experience, which examines turning points, technology and little-known facts about what is arguably America's greatest battle, according to History officials.

While the world was recently rocked by news of Arnold Schwarzenegger fathering a love child with his housekeeper, comedienne Sandra Bernhard wasn't surprised.
This is because, as she claims, the former California governor once made a pass at her.
Before his Hollywood career and political run, during a time when he was only known as the reigning Mr. Olympia, Schwarzenegger approached Bernhard along Venice Beach, she claims.
"In the '70s when I moved to LA I was on the beach by Gold's Gym," Bernhard told PopEater. "I was young, skinny as a stick, staring at the ocean, dreaming of the future, and Arnold came up to me and he was hitting on me."
"I don't date Germans so nothing happened," she added.

The diving bell spider or water spider, Argyroneta aquatica, is a spider which lives entirely under water.
Argyroneta aquatica is found in Northern and Central Europe and up to latitude 62°N and northern Asia. It is the only spider that spends its whole life under water. However it breathes air, which it traps in a bubble held by hairs on its abdomen and legs.[2]

Why Are Some People Double-Jointed?
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7794-Why-Are-Some-People-Double-Jointed
At any party, there's always that guy who can bend his fingers freakishly far back, and then brags about being "double-jointed" – but there's actually no such thing.
The term double-jointed implies that a person with unusual flexibility has twice the average number of joints, which allows for their increased range of motion. But that's anatomically impossible – except for rare instances, the majority of people have the same number of joints, the points in the body where two bones meet.

Federal Lands in the US

The United States government has direct ownership of almost 650 million acres of land (2.63 million square kilometers) – nearly 30% of its total territory. These federal lands are used as military bases or testing grounds, nature parks and reserves and indian reservations, or are leased to the private sector for commercial exploitation (e.g. forestry, mining, agriculture). They are managed by different administrations, such as the Bureau of Land Management, the US Forest Service, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the US Department of Defense, the US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Bureau of Reclamation or the Tennessee Valley Authority.

If you're reading this, Harold Camping's predictions that the end of the world would start Saturday (May 21) failed to pan out.
That's good news for most of us, but Camping and his followers were looking forward to the end. After all, they believed that they were likely to be among the 200 million souls sent to live in paradise forever. So how do believers cope when their doomsday predictions fail?
It depends, said Lorenzo DiTommaso, a professor of religion at Concordia University in Montreal who studies the history of doomsday predictions.

Poverty has nothing to do with crime. Exhibit A.

Photo from Detroit News: White landlord allegedly killed by black millionaire. He was rehabilitating properties in Detroit and even living with tenants in one of his own properties. However, living among his tenants caused him to become a target.
The extremist left-wing mantra that “poverty caused crime,” is slander against all law abiding poor people. In fact, a mountain of empirical data exists that shows the two are not related.
In this case a 62 year old black male recently won $1.47 million, after taxes, in the lottery. Only to be charged with the premeditated murder of his daughter’s white landlord in an apparent racially motivated slaying.

Robert Putnam's next book: "Swinging Alone" Why are teachers unions warning about expanding class sizes even though the child population is declining in Los Angeles and other parts of California? The Golden State has a history of hawkishness on class size, but the intuition that class size strongly influences learning outcomes is not well supported by evidence.

Would Meek Compliance Have Saved Jason Kemp's Life?
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7779-Would-Meek-Compliance-Have-Saved-Jason-Kemp-s-Life
Yesterday the ACLU of Colorado filed a federal lawsuit against five Colorado State Patrol officers in connection with the shooting death of 31-year-old Jason Kemp at his home in Grand Junction last July. According to KKCO, the local NBC affiliate, Trooper Ivan Lawyer and Cpl. Kirk Firko "were called to an accident near Glade Park Road and South Broadway involving a pickup pulling a trailer and jet ski" in which "the jet ski fell off the trailer and the truck was stuck in a neighbor's yard." Callers "said it appeared as if the three people trying to remove the truck were intoxicated." When Lawyer and Firko arrived at the scene, the men were gone, but the troopers followed them to Kemp's house down the street. Kemp refused to let them in, saying (correctly) that they needed a warrant. Together Lawyer and Firko kicked in the door, and Lawyer shot Kemp in the chest at close range. Later he claimed that "Kemp lifted and extended his arm upward as if he was pointing a gun at him," but no weapon was found anywhere near his body.

This recipe is an all-time favorite with readers and made our Top Test list in 2008. (And I swear I am not just saying that because the recipe was crafted by Times Food editor Russ Parsons for his California Cook column on the joys of grilling.) In fact, I get so many requests for this recipe that I keep the link handy in my files for the guys -- and it's almost always a guy -- who writes to ask "You ran a rib recipe awhile back and I can't find my copy ... ."

Your Commute Is Killing You
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7770-Your-Commute-Is-Killing-You
This week, researchers at Umea University in Sweden released a startling finding: Couples in which one partner commutes for longer than 45 minutes are 40 percent likelier to divorce. The Swedes could not say why. Perhaps long-distance commuters tend to be poorer or less educated, both conditions that make divorce more common. Perhaps long transit times exacerbate corrosive marital inequalities, with one partner overburdened by child care and the other overburdened by work. But perhaps the Swedes are just telling us something we all already know, which is that commuting is bad for you. Awful, in fact.
Commuting is a migraine-inducing life-suck—a mundane task about as pleasurable as assembling flat-pack furniture or getting your license renewed, and you have to do it every day. If you are commuting, you are not spending quality time with your loved ones. You are not exercising, doing challenging work, having sex, petting your dog, or playing with your kids (or your Wii). You are not doing any of the things that make human beings happy. Instead, you are getting nauseous on a bus, jostled on a train, or cut off in traffic.
