You may think you understand how the Patriot Act allows the government to spy on its citizens. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) says it’s worse than you’ve heard.
Congress is set to reauthorize three controversial provisions of the surveillance law as early as Thursday. But Wyden says that what Congress will renew is a mere fig leaf for a far broader legal interpretation of the Patriot Act that the government keeps to itself — entirely in secret. Worse, there are hints that the government uses this secret interpretation to gather what one Patriot-watcher calls a “dragnet” for massive amounts of information on private citizens; the government portrays its data-collection efforts much differently.

How Animals Sense Potentially Harmful Acids
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7719-How-Animals-Sense-Potentially-Harmful-Acids
All animals face the challenge of deciding which chemicals in the environment are useful and which are harmful. A new study greatly improves our understanding of how animals sense an important class of potentially harmful chemicals: weak acids. The study appears online on May 16 in the Journal of General Physiology.
Weak acids like acetic acid (vinegar) and propionic acid (present in fermented foods like Swiss cheese) are shunned by many animals, and with good reason. Many organic acids in the environment can have widespread detrimental effects. Humans ingest these substances despite the fact that they actually elicit "irritating" sensations, a physiological response that may have been vital for our ancestors' survival.

A Discussion About Banning The Burqa In Australia
http://www.thebeerbarrel.net/showthread.php?7718-A-Discussion-About-Banning-The-Burqa-In-Australia
Senator Cory Bernardi provides an argument in favour of banning the burqa in this TV discussion. One of the commentators in the discussion suggested that banning the burqu might encourage radicalisation, but doesn’t stop to think that the increase in the number of women wearing this garment might actually be the result of radicalisation. The increase in the wearing of garments like the burqa seems to have taken place at the same time as demands for the expansion of halal food, apartheid measures such as Muslim only swimming sessions, the banning of criticism of Islam, and as the increased efforts by Islam to dominate the social space in a whole range of diverse areas is taking place.

What a goddamn degenerate. If I were a black nationalist, I'd look no further than Steven Tyler for a perfect "white caveman" sort of avatar. Talk about a missing link...
And this is the last trashy UK tabloid link for a while, I promise.

Ultra-PC couple raising 'genderless' baby

The father looks like a Milquetoast PC lackey and is, as you would expect, employed by a school district and interested in "social justice" issues. I'm surprised these people even decided to "breed" at all instead of walking around in a self-congratulatory "childfree" haze or adopting some exotic third world fauna.
